Throughout years of our work together, Authentics’ owner, Hans Maier-Aichen often referred with fascination on our “very American way of consuming and at the same time criticizing the consumer lifestyle”. Indeed, most of our studio’s products for Authentics commented on traditional American typologies, often with a twist.
In design for a bath caddy, we turned to traditional hand-made baskets, with their characteristic proportions and woven patterns -– in this case, adopted as drainage slots. A flat removable tray for smaller bath items added to flexibility of the object’s use.
A seemingly impossible assignment - to improve on a flower pot – resulted in a compact object where a terra-cotta pot was integrated with a removable plastic saucer. In addition to their primary function, the saucers of different plastic colors played a role of functional decoration.
